The Christian Century is proud of its writers, illustrators, and editors for their combined 15 Best of the Church Press awards for work published during 2025. The winners were announced at the Associated Church Press annual conference, hosted this year in Toronto.
The Century received eight awards of excellence, the top award, in the following categories:
- Critical review: “The new Bonhoeffer movie isn’t just bad. It’s dangerous.” by Mac Loftin
- Editorial: “Facing fascism,” by the CC editors
- Illustration: accompanying “Black Church is my mother tongue,” by illustrator Diane Ejaita
- International reporting: “Pastors in exile,” by Marc Roscoe Loustau
- Magazine department: Seen & Heard section, by Jessica Mesman
- Opinion: “The blasphemy of national Christianity,” by Mac Loftin
- Personal experience: “An accomplished soldier, fired for no reason,” by Anna Keating
- Poetry: “Free Will: A Consideration,” by Sarah Gordon
The Century received three awards of merit, a second-place award:
- Magazine spread design: accompanying “What is the Bible for?” by illustrator Eric Nyquist
- Poetry: “Poems for Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ,” by Tania Runyan
- Theological reflection: “God’s relentless gaze,” by Arthur Aghajanian
The Century received honorable mention awards in the following categories:
- Interview: “Meeting Flannery O’Connor at the crossroads,” by Amy Alznauer
- Letters to the editor: Letters & Comments section, by Jon Mathieu
- Magazine: the Christian Century
- Photograph: accompanying “Trump’s imperial golden age,” by art director Daniel Richardson
