Rights and Permissions

Physical reprints

If you would like permission to reprint an article that has appeared in the Christian Century, contact permissions@christiancentury.org.

Include the following information:

  • Title, author, and issue date
  • Where the article will be reprinted
  • Number of copies
  • Estimated price you will charge for print publication or online access
  • Your contact information (including institution, mailing address, and phone number)

If you wish to make fewer than 300 print copies of an article and are not selling those copies, you may reproduce the article without contacting us first if you add the following copyright information to each copy:

Online reprints

In general, we do not grant permission for Christian Century content to be reposted on other websites or in e-newsletters. There are a few exceptions we will consider:

  • Websites closely related to the article's content (e.g., a seminary may be granted permission to post an interview with its own president)
  • Websites that are password protected
  • The personal website of an article's author
  • Churches may be granted permission to reprint an article in their physical and email newsletters, but not on a website (unless they take it down after 30 days).

If you would like permission to reprint an article on your website or in an e-newsletter and believe your use qualifies for an exception listed above, contact permissions@christiancentury.org.

Include the following information:

  • Title, author, and issue date
  • The website where the article will be reprinted
  • Whether the content is password-protected or open to the public
  • Any membership fees you charge
  • If you would like to reprint an article in an e-newsletter, the circulation of that newsletter
  • Your contact information

Exceptions

Some of the material we publish is not copyrighted by the Christian Century; therefore, the Century cannot grant permission for its use. Please contact the copyright holder for permission to reproduce the following:

  • Book excerpts
  • Images
  • Martin Luther King Jr.'s articles
  • Other articles that indicate a copyright other than the Christian Century's
