Lenny Duncan joins Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary

Lenny Duncan, a queer, Black pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is joining Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary as a public theologian to help develop a two-year certification program.

In a statement to the Century, Duncan said he was humbled by the opportunity to help prepare people “for a world beyond the institutional church.”

“We know that world is antiracist in ethic, empowering to BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ and two-spirited peoples, centers our unique hermeneutic, and is deeply rooted in mystic practices, of not just Jesus, but our own indigenous spiritualities and cultures,” he continued.

Duncan wrote the popular 2019 book Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the U.S. and the more recent United States of Grace: A Memoir of Homelessness, Addiction, Incarceration, and Hope.
