On Monday the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Publishing Corporation announced Bridgett A. Green as the new president and publisher of Presbyterian Publishing Corporation. Green, who will retain the position of editorial director of Westminster John Knox Press, the main book imprint of PPC, has been the vice president of publishing and editorial director since 2022 and the interim president since May.
PPC’s board of directors formed a search committee in early May, following the retirement announcement of the previous president and publisher, David Dobson, who had served as president and publisher since 2018. The vote to appoint Green was unanimous. She will be the first woman and the first Black American in this position.
Green said she was honored and grateful to have been selected. “PPC has a long and distinguished history of equipping the church, nurturing theological imagination, inspiring faith, and amplifying diverse voices grounded in the Reformed tradition,” she said. “Its mission deeply aligns with my own calling as a scholar, a minister and a publishing leader.”
Green holds a Ph.D in religion from Vanderbilt University, with an emphasis in New Testament and early Christianity. Her M.Div is from Princeton Theological Seminary. Among her honors are the Luke-Acts Prize from Vanderbilt University, the Jagow Preaching Prize from Princeton Seminary.
Green’s service to the PCUSA includes serving on the boards of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, the Presbyterian Outlook, and Montreat Conference Center; leading Bible study for national staff trainings; working in the Presbyterian Mission Agency as an associate for the Racial Ethnic Young Women Together office, and as a coordinator in the Office of Women’s Ministries and Racial Justice.
Green worked at PPC as an acquisitions editor from 2015-2018 and was an assistant professor of New Testament at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary from 2018-2022. She is a member of the Presbytery of Charlotte.
Green will officially begin her new role January 1. Her appointment is pending final confirmation at the 227th general assembly in July. —Presbyterian News Service
