Milk and Ashes

by Israel Zoberman in the January 2024 issue
ShareShare on TwitterShare on FacebookEmail to a friendPrint

In the 1948 photo my grandpa
Tzvi feeds me milk from a cup
while walking together in the
Displaced Persons Camp
of Wetzlar, Germany.
When he died in Chicago,
I inherited his ashtray
and our family’s smoke
which blackened heavens.

This poem appears in the January 2024 issue.
