Straying permissibly
from stayed focus on Christ,
Paul remembers others most dear.

Let me join him:

Though I have forgotten your
first name, and struggled to claim your last,
the boy preacher remembers you.

You kept giving him chances
to say
and sing.

You hosted him
in your home,
piling up praise and support.

Though your face is a blur
and your first name still a blank,
I feel you. I thank you.

Yours was gifted light
making calling feel true
beyond all wilting questions.
