Eve, Embellishing

After Marc Chagall’s Paradise II (The Green Donkey)

Oranges and strawberries burst together like sunshine in the mouth.
What if I toss in a pinch of mint for shade?

I mingled a handful of red poppies with spiky purple lupine.
White anemones will add the moon’s kiss.

How lovely our smooth-flanked donkey will look if I weave white clover
and sprigs of fragrant rosemary into her mane.

Playful Adam is frisky as a fox kit, mischievous as a magpie,
frolicsome as a kid bounding from rock to rock.

If Adam touches the fruit from the tree in the middle of our garden,
all the stars might melt from the night sky, plunging us into darkness.
