Preaching God’s Transforming Justice, edited by Dawn Ottoni-Wilhelm, Ronald J. Allen and Dale P. Andrews

This is the third and final volume in a series of commentaries on the Revised Common Lectionary that focuses on the challenge and mandate of preaching about justice, rooted in the belief that God’s vision is for a social world of love and justice. “Every passage in the Bible has social implications,” say the editors. This series includes reflections and suggested biblical texts for 22 “Holy Days for Justice.” The editors comment: “Each Holy Day for Justice derives from either a person or an event that helps the contemporary community become aware of arenas in the world that cry for justice.” Some of these days already have prominence, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Earth Day and World AIDS Day. Others may be new: Óscar Romero of the Americas Day, Sojourner Truth Day and Gifts of Sexuality Day.
