Evening Prayer in January at the Sight of Jupiter

You gather up the gray
of this dull January day,

then, just before the hidden sun
should set

you open the horizon
sewing streaks of pink

through clouds that promise night.
While I remain astutely unaware

you announce the pinpoint
spark of Jupiter

whose light,
though not requested or expected,

pierces clouds to lift
my almost-sinking January heart.
