Churches in Niger and other former French colonies torched amid anger over Charlie Hebdo cartoons

NAIROBI, Kenya (RNS) Demonstrations in several African countries against cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad have included acts of violence against Christians.

At least 45 churches have been torched in Niger in two days of protests that left about 10 people dead. The targeted churches were mainly of the evangelical denominations and built on the left bank of Niamey, the capital city.
