A review of Things Seen and Unseen

Cunningham has been keeping notebooks for many years that contain quotes, anecdotes and other snippets from his reading and some of his own theological reflections that he hoped might someday find their way into articles or books. It occurred to him that since he enjoys reading the journals and diaries of other people, he should publish a selection of entries from his own notebooks. Some of the more interesting entries are reflections on a scripture text, a moment in the liturgical year or even the meaning of a word. Although he's known as a liberal, he expresses respect for Pope Benedict XVI as a theologian (not so much for Pope John Paul II). Inevitably preachers will find in the book quotes and illustrations for sermonizing.
