Geneva, December 2 (ENInews)--The general secretary of the World Council of Churches, the Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit, says he hopes his upcoming audience in Rome with Pope Benedict XVI will advance Christian unity.
"It is important that we speak honestly in this meeting about the challenges we have," Tveit said of the 4 December meeting at the Vatican.
Geneva, November 9 (ENInews)--Christine Housel, an Episcopalian (Anglican) from the United States, has been elected the new general secretary of the World Student Christian Federation, a global grouping of student groups that promotes dialogue, ecumenism, social justice and peace.
The appeals for visible church unity made at the recent World Council of Churches assembly in Brazil were not new, but the longtime obstacles remain a sore point for many—especially limits on celebrating communion in each other’s churches and the lack of a common date for Easter.
