What’s in a Phrase? Pausing Where Scripture Gives You Pause, by Marilyn Chandler McEntyre

McEntyre has a deep concern for how language is used (see her previous work, Caring for Words in a Culture of Lies). Here she builds on the Benedictine concept of lectio divina, the slow reading of sacred texts which calls the readers to  focus on words and phrases that grab their attention. The book consists of short meditations on scripture texts and phrases—especially from the Psalms and the Gospels—that have caught her attention over the years. Her intent is not simply to share her own reflections on treasured texts but to invite the reader to pause and ponder.
