People who have knowledge of and access to contraceptives tend to have fewer unwanted pregnancies and therefore fewer abortions. It’s no accident that the world’s lowest abortion rates are found in Belgium and the Netherlands, where contraception is widely available, or that the highest rates are in Cuba and Vietnam, where access is limited.

Congressional Democrats say they will pull the plug on abstinence-only sex education when a $50 million grant expires on June 30—a move sparking outrage among social conservative groups.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has agreed to stop funding an abstinence program that included religious elements.

The American Civil Liberties Union announced February 23 that the settlement had been reached between its lawyers and federal officials in a case involving the Silver Ring Thing abstinence education group in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.

Plans were announced this month for African-American men, women and children to travel to Washington for a massive October 15 rally on the National Mall.
