Amanda Marcotte got the memo. Religion in America is dying, and the religion of bigotry is finding it hard to maintain its followership.
Here are some things I read recently but didn't get around to blogging about.
The gospel in seven words or less
The Spirit who raised
Jesus from the dead is working to infiltrate the whole creation with God's
New today from the Century.
Advent is the season of the showing. Sure of the growth within us, we know that things are about to change.
Years ago I cringed when I saw that the Onion sells a t-shirt with the slogan, "I appreciate
the Muppets on a much deeper level than you." My friend John
and I had just been discussing the Muppets' sly use of metafictional
Isaiah 40:1-11; Mark 1:1-8
As the second Sunday
in advent approaches, I find the prophets of the season compelling. To my ears,
their message sounds pretty consistent: "Change the ways of this world."
Giving thanks together
This week at Theology Pub
we discussed Thanksgiving from various angles. I found it an
interesting topic because giving thanks—and gratitude in general—is
certainly not unique to people of faith.
